The car was towed (again) December 4, 2006

Posted by Patrick in : Pittsburgh , trackback

On Saturday night, I parked at my new place in an area that I usually do not park in. It was normal street parking a bit beyond my own house. Anyway, I parked, visited my place to pick out some paint colors and then walked over to the new Borders.

After running into Albert, I returned around 12:45 to a bare patch of pavement instead of the Mercury Sable that I was expecting. At first, I thought someone stole it. But there was no broken glass. Then, the driveway came in view and I followed with a palm to the forehead. Somehow, I missed the driveway that I parked in front of.

So, I picked up the car today via the bus and paid the $139 tab. Ouch!

In other news…Pittsburghers, have you seen Google Transit? We’re one of the few areas in the country that has our public transportation routes searchable within Google Maps.

ouch! I had my car towed during rush hour (reading the signs helps) downtown the week before Christmas a few years back. I remember that I got a ticket, as well, on top of paying to get the car out of the pound…

I recall going to the pound in Pittsburgh. It’s sort of under the 31st St. Bridge over the Allegheny. Was that the one you went to, Pat? Anyway, sorry to hear about that. That’s pretty annoying.

That’s cool that Pittsburgh is on Google Transit. I wonder if Pittsburgh is there because Google has an office at CMU. It does seem notable that cities like Boston and New York are not on there and a city like Pittsburgh is…

I think Pittsburgh’s in google transit maps for a couple reasons: google has a Pittsburgh office and its public transportation is small and a single unit (that is, it’s all run by the same company: Port Authority. New York has a giant system and Boston doesn’t have a google office. The SF Bay Area has about ten different public transportation providers (Caltrain, BART, Muni, VTA, Samtrans, etc.).

[…] Almost a year and a half after Pittsburgh got it, Google Transit is now available for the Bay Area. […]
