2.1 for 200! January 28, 2007

I’m bringing in the 200’s with a new and improved version of Wordpress for y’all. Unfortunately, the new version will really only affect the writer more than the reader. The upgrade deals more with the back-end like tabbed editing panes, autosaving posts, and more AJAX. This means that I’ll have to make up the deficit in superb writing. I’ll try my best.

My arm hurts November 24, 2006

My brother purchased a Wii system this past week and it is a blast. So far, he has only two games: the standard Wii sports game and Zelda. It’s an impressive system. I just learned too that you can buy previous Nintendo, Super Nintendo, N64 games as well as Sega Genesis and Turbo Grafix 16 (do you remember that?) games.

Talking to my brother, I’m amazed at the current game console market. Do you know that a PS3 sold on eBay a week ago for $9000? Who has that kind of money for a game system? Out of 174 PS3’s, the average price for a PS3 on ebay is just over $2600. That’s ridiculous.

Anyway, my arm hurts from playing a bunch of tennis and bowling. I’m actually kind of worried that there will be scores of hard-core gamers out there who will injure themselves with Wii. I almost punched a hole through my parents’ dropped ceiling earlier today.

Okay, this post is a little embarassing. Happy Black Friday. My sister and I plan to see The Departed tomorrow. I’ll let you know how it is.

Check out some of these great projects done by Ben Fry who’s currently teaching at CMU this year in their school of design. “His research focuse[s] on combining fields such as Computer Science, Statistics, Graphic Design, and Data Visualization as a means for understanding complex data.”

Regulus, mount up August 27, 2006

Because of some feedback that the theme was too sparse and plain-looking, I’m giving Regulus a try. The theme adds more color than my previous two themes, while keeping the look simple and intuitive. I like how it uses the sidebar as two separate columns. The font and the color trimming are appealing. He also does some neat things with blockquotes.

It offers several configuration options that I’ll have to fool around with. One of the first things will go is the header image.

Thoughts?

What a novel idea!

Theme thoughts?

Like Adrian, I’m considering a new theme. What do people think of this one? It’s yellowhite3c. I like the simple, clean, minimalist design. Some of my concerns are a) the three columns for small-res monitors 2) the small typefont for the grandmothers (since that’s the largest demographic of my blog) and d) that it’s too plain and simple.

Sweet. Adobe Lightroom Beta is now available for Windows. And it’s residing on my computer. My friend Albert informed me about this software about a month ago. It’s supposed to handle RAW images well and have a very intuitive workflow design. Right now, I’ve been using Picasa and GIMP. But if the beta is as good as I think it is, I might bite the bullet in the future and purchase this.

Calendar

Lately, I’ve been loving Google’s newest offering, Google Calendar. Scheduling has always been the bane of my existence. Hopefully this new software will help me out in the weeks to come. Some of the features I like most are the ability to overlay other people’s calendars with yours, and the reminder for events via text messaging. As most of Google’s software, the interface is very simple and intuitive.

And I’m currently maintaining a calendar for the Open Door (my church in Pittsburgh). So anyone can search for this calendar and overlay it on top of theirs. It will let you know the skinny on everything.

Oh yeah…your J-side.
